Built by Investors, Operators, and Functional Experts
Operator-led buyouts require more than capital. They require judgment, diligence, operating discipline, and practical support after closing.
South Highland Ventures brings together private equity investment experience, operating leadership, board-level judgment, and functional expertise to support operators before, during, and after acquisition. Our model is designed to help evaluate opportunities, support diligence, and assist portfolio company leaders across growth, operations, sales, technology, integration, and governance.
Leadership

Ron Ondechek, Jr.
Founder & Managing Partner
Ron Ondechek Jr. is the Founder and Managing Partner of South Highland Ventures and leads SHV ETA Fund I, LP. He is a private equity investor with experience across more than 100 transactions and service on over 15 company boards across a range of industries.
Ron’s background spans private equity, growth investing, early-stage venture capital, board governance, investment turnarounds, and strategic advisory work with founder-led and growth-stage companies. His experience includes sourcing and evaluating acquisitions, supporting management teams, advising on capital strategy, and helping companies navigate growth, transition, and exit opportunities.
Prior to founding South Highland Ventures, Ron worked across private equity and growth investing and previously served as a refinery engineer with ExxonMobil. He brings a practical, operator-oriented approach to investing, with a focus on disciplined execution, governance, and long-term value creation. Ron is a first-generation college graduate and has a BS in Chemical Engineering from Penn State University and a MBA from Tulane University.
Why Succession Matters
Ondechek Auto Service, founded by Ron’s grandfather, Michael Ondechek — a self-taught mechanic whose work helped shape Ron’s perspective on business ownership, operating discipline, and legacy.
Ron’s focus on founder- and family-owned businesses is personal. His grandfather, Michael Ondechek, was a self-taught mechanic who became fascinated by automobiles after seeing a Model T drive down a dirt road near his home in Duquesne, Pennsylvania. He went on to build Ondechek Auto Service, a family business rooted in technical skill, hard work, and practical problem-solving.
That operating DNA extended into racing. Michael, along with Ron’s father and uncle, was part of Richard Petty’s racing team in the 1970s. Ron’s father served on the pit crew, while his grandfather and uncle worked behind the wall making pre-race and in-race repairs under pressure.
That family history shaped Ron’s belief that founder- and family-owned businesses are more than financial assets. They represent craft, reputation, employees, customers, community, and legacy. SHV was built to help businesses like these transition thoughtfully, modernize with discipline, and preserve what made them successful.
